How Slack Licenses Are Counted for Backup
To back up your Slack workspace, you need a license for all active workspace users and multi-channel guests:
Active Workspace Users – These are the regular users in your Slack workspace who can join multiple public and private channels, send and receive direct messages (DMs), share files, participate in threads and group DMs, and interact with apps and integrations.
Multi-Channel Guests – These are guest users who are invited to more than one channel. Though they’re not active members, their messages and files across those channels are still valuable and need to be protected.
You do not need to count single-channel guests or deactivated users—those are excluded from SysCloud's licensing requirements.
Total Slack Backup Licenses Required = Number of Active Users + Number of Multi-Channel Guests
For example, if your Slack workspace has 95 active users, 5 multi-channel guests, 3 single-channel guests, and 2 deactivated users, you only need licenses for the 95 active users and 5 multi-channel guests. The 3 single-channel guests and the 2 deactivated users are not counted. That means you need a total of 100 licenses.
