How to backup Microsoft 365 using Groups in the SysCloud application?

Follow the steps below to include Microsoft 365 Groups in a backup job. 

Step 1: In Jobs, navigate to the Select Scope section. 

Step 2: In Clouds, choose Microsoft 365, then click Select (edit icon) under Scope

Step 3: Select the domain that contains the groups to back up 

Step 4: Under “Select users to back up,” choose “Select specific groups or users” 


Step 5:
In the “By Groups” tab, use the side panel to select the groups that you want to backup. 

Note: Cross-domain users are not visible in this list because they are outside the selected domain.  

However, when you edit the job, the new domain will appear in the “Scope” section. Expand “Select specific groups or users” under that domain to view the users.  

Backed-up data for cross-domain users will appear in “Archives” under their respective domains. 

 

Enable Auto-backup for users associated with the group. 

Step 1: Navigate to the job’s Configure Settings section. 

Step 2: Select Configure for the domain where the Group resides. 

1. To configure group-level settings, select the “By Groups” tab.

  • Click the checkbox next to “Auto-backup” to automatically add new users to the backup schedule. When Auto-backup is enabled, all unprotected users from this domain are backed up automatically to this backup job. 
  • Click the checkbox next to “Auto-backup (other users)” to automatically add new cross-domain users to the backup schedule. When Auto-backup (other users) is enabled, all unprotected users from other domains are backed up automatically to this backup job. 
  • Click the checkbox next to “Inactive user retention” to set backup archive retention for suspended/deleted users. By default, it will be set to unlimited. 
  •  Click the checkbox next to “User archive storage limit” to set a limit on backup storage for users. By default, it will be set to unlimited. 


2. To configure user-level settings, select the “By User” tab.

  • Click the checkbox below “User archive storage limit” to set a limit on backup storage for users. By default, it will be set to unlimited. 

Note: Auto-backup (other users) can only be turned on if Auto-backup is turned on for that Group.
