You can change the retention period for backed up Xero data by editing the existing Xero backup job in SysCloud or by changing the default retention setting while creating a new job. The retention period determines how long SysCloud retains backed up Xero data for the selected backup job.   **To change the retention period for backed up Xero data** **Step 1:** [Log in](https://app3.syscloud.com/) to SysCloud using your admin credentials. **Step 2:** Click **Jobs** from the top navigation menu. You can either: - Enter a custom retention value and select the unit as **Days**, **Months**, or **Years**. - Select **Unlimited** to retain Xero backup data without a fixed retention period. ![](https://help.syscloud.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Jul-01-2026-01-00-45-7351-PM.png?width=670&height=332&name=undefined-Jul-01-2026-01-00-45-7351-PM.png) **Step 6:** Click **Confirm** to save the updated retention setting. **Step 7:** Click **Next** through the remaining steps. **Step 8:** In the **Define action flows** step, click **Start backup** to save the changes and update the Xero backup job.
