How to connect Microsoft Entra to SysCloud Backup

Microsoft Entra backup is enabled through your Microsoft 365 cloud connection in the SysCloud backup application.

The steps you need to follow depend on whether your Microsoft 365 cloud is already connected to SysCloud.

Scenario 1: Microsoft 365 is already connected to SysCloud

If you have already connected your Microsoft 365 cloud to SysCloud, reconnect the Microsoft 365 account to allow SysCloud to start backing up Microsoft Entra data.

Steps to reconnect your Microsoft 365 account

Step 1: Log in to the SysCloud backup application using your admin credentials.

Step 2: Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the page and select Cloud Connection Center.

Step 3: On the Cloud Connection Center page, locate Microsoft 365.

Step 4: Click the Edit icon under the Action column for Microsoft 365.

Step 5: In the Microsoft 365 - Connect side tray, click Add accounts.

Step 6: In case you want to connect a previously connected account, click Connect under the Action column for the account you want to connect.

Step 7: Select the Microsoft 365 account name you want to reconnect.

Step 8: Click Connect.

Step 9: Sign in to Microsoft 365 using an administrator account and grant the required permissions.

Step 10: After the reconnection is complete, you will be redirected to the Cloud Connection Center.

Step 11: Verify that the Microsoft 365 account status is shown as Connected.

Reconnecting your Microsoft 365 account will not affect any actively running backups for that account.

Scenario 2: Microsoft 365 is not connected to SysCloud

If you have not connected your Microsoft 365 cloud to SysCloud yet, connect your Microsoft 365 account from the Cloud Connection Center. This will allow SysCloud to back up supported Microsoft 365 data, including Microsoft Entra.

Steps to connect your Microsoft 365 account

Step 1: Log in to the SysCloud backup application using your admin credentials.

Step 2: Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the page and select Cloud Connection Center.

Step 3: On the Cloud Connection Center page, locate Microsoft 365.

Step 4: Click Connect under the Action column for Microsoft 365.

Step 5: In the Microsoft 365 - Connect side tray, click Add accounts.

Step 6: Select the Microsoft 365 account name you want to reconnect.

Step 7: Click Connect.

Step 8: Sign in to Microsoft 365 using an administrator account and grant the required permissions.

Step 9: After authorization is complete, you will be redirected back to the SysCloud backup application.

Step 10: Verify that the Microsoft 365 account status is shown as Connected in the Cloud Connection Center.

For detailed setup steps, read How to connect Microsoft 365 account to the SysCloud backup application?

Note: When connecting Microsoft 365 for the first time, you may be prompted to sign in and grant permissions twice: first to authorize access to Microsoft 365 applications, and then to authorize SharePoint-based OneNote access.

What happens after connecting or reconnecting Microsoft 365?

After Microsoft 365 is connected or reconnected, SysCloud will have the required permissions to back up Microsoft Entra data.

You can then go to Jobs and create or edit a Microsoft 365 backup job to configure the backup settings for Microsoft Entra.

Microsoft Entra backup depends on the Microsoft 365 cloud connection. If Microsoft 365 is disconnected or the required permissions are not granted, SysCloud will not be able to back up Microsoft Entra data.
