SysCloud supports backing up Slack Connect channels to ensure that cross-organization collaboration data is protected. However, the behavior of backups and restores depends on whether Slack's Channel Connect feature is enabled in your Slack environment.
This article explains:
-
How Slack Connect channel data is handled during backups.
-
Limitations during restore for Slack Connect channels.
What is Slack Connect?
Slack Connect allows organizations to share channels with external partners, vendors, or clients across Slack workspaces. These shared channels function like regular channels but include members from multiple organizations.
SysCloud supports backups for Slack Connect channels, with enhanced visibility and restore options when Channel Connect is enabled.
How does SysCloud show Slack Connect data?
In the Archives page for Slack, SysCloud displays a list of all backed-up channels. Each channel includes a Type column that helps you identify if the channel is:
-
Internal – Only includes users from your workspace.
-
External – Shared with another organization through Slack Connect.
Slack Connect channels will be marked as External in this column.
To view Slack Connect data:
-
Go to the Archives tab in SysCloud.
-
Select Slack as the application.
-
Navigate to either the Public channels or Private channels tab.
-
Look under the Type column.
If a channel is shared via Slack Connect, it will show External in the Type column.
Limitations of Slack Connect channel support
While SysCloud backs up and displays Slack Connect channel data, there are technical limitations especially during restore:
1. External users are not restored automatically
-
External members from other organizations are not re-added when restoring Slack Connect channels.
-
You must manually re-invite external users after restoring the channel.
2. Incomplete member lists on restore
-
Restored channels may not include all the original members, especially external ones.
-
Only internal members are restored automatically.
3. Manual role and permission setup
-
Member roles and permissions for external users must be configured manually after restore.
