# What does "Standard restore" for Outlook mean?

### Overview

**Standard Restore** restores Outlook email content and attachments to Microsoft 365. It is suitable for regular email recovery where restoring the email and its primary content is the goal.

Standard Restore restores key email information, including the **subject, body, sender, recipients, date, and attachments**. Some underlying email metadata may change or may not be preserved after restore. 

### What may be different after restore?

Some underlying metadata associated with the email may be represented differently after restore. Based on SysCloud's current testing, this can include:

- **Language-related metadata** - information associated with the language preferences or content language of the email.
- **Microsoft Purview sensitivity-label metadata** - underlying metadata associated with sensitivity labels applied to an email.
- **Exchange message-tracking information** - Microsoft Exchange-generated information used for message identification and tracing.
- **Spam-classification metadata** - information generated by Microsoft to classify messages for spam filtering.
- **Content-formatting metadata** - information related to the email's content type, character set, or MIME structure.
- **Application-specific or custom metadata** - additional email information created by applications, add-ins, or other mail systems.

Depending on the metadata, it may be changed, recreated differently by Microsoft Exchange, or not restored. 

Common email information such as **From, To, Cc, Subject, Date, Message-ID, Received, Received-SPF, DKIM-Signature, Authentication-Results, and MIME-Version** was preserved in SysCloud's current testing.

For recovery scenarios where preserving more of the original email metadata is important, use **Extended Restore**.
