Why is restore currently not supported for Xero?

SysCloud currently supports backup and export for Xero data. However, direct restore back into Xero is not supported at this time.

This is because Xero does not allow all backed-up records to be recreated or updated in the same way through its available integration methods. Since restore must put data back accurately and safely, SysCloud does not provide the Restore option for Xero until this can be done reliably.

Why restore is not available

Xero data includes different types of accounting records, such as accounts, invoices, payments, bank transactions, contacts, and other financial objects.

For restore to work correctly, SysCloud must be able to place each record back into Xero exactly as it was during backup. This includes important details such as amounts, statuses, relationships, linked records, and attachments.

At present, Xero does not support full restore actions for all these record types. Some records cannot be updated after they are created. Some fields cannot be changed. Some records can only be created or deleted but not restored exactly to a previous state.

Because of this, restoring data directly into Xero could lead to incomplete, duplicate, or inaccurate accounting records.

What this means for users

You can back up and export Xero data from SysCloud, but you cannot restore Xero data directly back into Xero from the SysCloud application.

The Restore option is not available for Xero because SysCloud cannot guarantee a complete and accurate in-app restore with the current Xero limitations.

Recommended option

Use the Export option to download the required Xero backup data from SysCloud.

You can then review the exported data and use it as a reference to manually recreate or update the required records in Xero.

  • This is a Xero restore limitation and not a backup failure.
  • Your Xero backup data remains available in SysCloud for review and export.
  • SysCloud may support Xero restore in the future if Xero provides the required restore capabilities.
