How to restore a single file in Microsoft 365?

You can restore a single Microsoft 365 file from the SysCloud backup archive. During the restore, you can choose whether to restore sharing permissions and whether to restore the file to a new folder.

To restore a single file

Turbo UI

Step 1: Log in to SysCloud using your admin credentials.

Step 2: Click on “Archives” and select “Microsoft 365” from the Side Navigation Panel. Navigate to the user archives tab and click on a username to drill down into their archive.

Step 3: Open the required Microsoft 365 app, such as OneDrive or SharePoint, based on where the file was backed up.

If required, select the appropriate snapshot to view the files available at that backup point (click here to learn how to select snapshots).

Browse to the required file or use the search bar and filter options to locate it. Select the checkbox next to the file and click Restore.

Step 4: In the Restore window, verify the selected snapshot date and time.

By default, the selected user will be selected. To perform a cross-user restore, you can select a different account of the same domain if available.

Step 5: Select the required restore options:

  • Select Restore all share permissions to restore the file with its sharing permissions intact.
  • Select Create a new folder for restore to restore the file to a separate restore folder.

Step 6: Add an optional comment to be shown in the Restore report, if required. Click Restore.

Step 7: You can view the restore status from Reports > Restore report.

      Note:

For OneDrive, you can restore files to the original user account or to another user account from the same domain. You can also choose to restore sharing permissions and restore the files to a new restore folder.

      • By default, SysCloud restores the file to its original location, if available.
      • If Create a new folder for restore is selected, SysCloud restores the file to a separate restore folder.
      • If the selected file is inside a folder or subfolder, SysCloud retains the folder and subfolder structure automatically.
      • If the selected file is not inside any folder, SysCloud creates a new restore folder using the format Restored on dd-mmm-yyyy hh_mm_ss.

For SharePoint, you can restore an entire SharePoint site or drill down into the site archive and restore specific items such as files, folders, document libraries, lists, or pages. When performing a site-level restore, you can restore only one SharePoint site at a time. If you choose to restore items to a new SharePoint site, sharing permissions for files, folders, and list items are not backed up.

For Teams site files, open the SharePoint tab in the selected Teams archive to restore files or folders shared in Teams. Teams conversations and Teams site files are restored separately.
