What are the common restore errors and resolutions in Teams Chat Backup?

This article provides solutions for common errors encountered during restore operations. These errors include issues with bot messages, OneDrive backups, and adding users.

Error 1: Can Not Restore, Message Sent via Bot

Description: This error occurs when a restore operation fails because the message being restored was originally sent via a bot. Due to API limitations, items sent via bots cannot be restored.

Cause:

  • The message was sent via a bot.
  • API limitations prevent the restoration of such messages.

Resolution: Unfortunately, messages sent via bots cannot be restored due to current API limitations. If you need to recover information from such messages, consider exporting the messages instead.

Error 2: OneDrive File Not Backed Up

Description: This error occurs when a OneDrive file is not included in the backup. It indicates that the OneDrive backup option may not be enabled for the user.

Cause:

  • The OneDrive backup is not enabled for the user.

Resolution: To resolve this issue, ensure that the OneDrive backup is enabled for the user in the backup job.

Error 3: Failed to Add User Due to Error

Description: This error occurs when a user cannot be added due to the user being suspended or deleted.

    Cause:

    • The user account is suspended.
    • The user account is deleted.

Resolution: To resolve this issue, check the status of the user account:

    1. Verify User Status:
      • Confirm if the user account is suspended or deleted.
    2. Reactivate Account: If the user is suspended, reactivate the account.
    3. Create a New Account: If the user is deleted, create a new user account.
