There are two types of Sharepoint Sites based on how they are created:
- Microsoft Teams Sites
- Sharepoint Sites
Here are additional details on these two types of sites.
Microsoft Teams Sites: Microsoft Teams is a collaborative platform for organizations which supports workplace chat, video meetings, file storage and application integration. Each “Team” can be accessed by only a set of users who are members of that particular team. Microsoft Teams is tightly integrated with other Microsoft 365 (Office 365) apps.. Every time you create a new “Microsoft Team”, you automatically create a new Microsoft 365 Group, Calendar, Planner and a Team Site on Sharepoint.
This Sharepoint Team Site stores all the documents shared in the associated Team. Each Team can have multiple channels with the default channel being “General”. Every time a channel is created in a Team, a corresponding folder is created in the Sharepoint Team Site with the same name.
Sharepoint Sites: Alternatively sites can also be created from Sharepoint. Sharepoint offers the ability to create two types of sites, Team Site and Communication Site.
- Team Site: Best suited to store files that are meant to be shared with a Team.
- Communication Site: Best suited to publish content to the rest of the organization.
Sites backup in SysCloud
SysCloud supports the backup of the Sharepoint Sites that include both Communication Sites and Team Sites. Syscloud preserves the complete folder structure of all the backed up sites. For a Sharepoint Team Site, it backs up all the corresponding folders and the folder content including all the files.
SysCloud also backs up the Team Sites associated with a Team in the Microsoft Teams. As mentioned above, these Team Sites have a separate folder for each channel and the files are saved in the corresponding folders. Syscloud preserves this folder structure as well, making it easy for the user to locate files in the Archives.
